Will the Board of Deputies condemn the demolition of Khan al-Ahmar?

The President of The Board of Deputies of British Jews has finally responded to our protest last month, and she has chosen to deliberately misrepresent us.

As she would know if she read The Jewish Chronicle, the police have already confirmed that our protest was legal, that we didn’t need a permit and we were perfectly in our rights.

She also mistakenly says we were protesting the Israeli government. In fact we were protesting the shameful silence from herself and the Board of Deputies on the demolition of #KhanAlAhmar, and how they’re perpetuating the community’s complicity in the occupation.

We used Jewish ritual in building a succah and running a tekes because ultimately our drive for justice and shared humanity in Israel-Palestine is underpinned by Jewish values, texts and rituals. Marie van der Zyl does not get to be the arbiter of what is appropriate Jewish ritual.

Now that we’ve clarified all that, we ask the Board and its President again:

Will you condemn the demolition of Khan al-Ahmar before hundreds of Palestinians are displaced?
