We reject attempts to shut down dissent in our community.

This week a young Jewish activist was told she was not welcome in her community.

The Reform Movement and RSY-Netzer dismissed Nina Morris-Evans as an Israel Tour Leader after she attended an event that protested the shooting of Palestinians in Gaza in May 2018.

This was after a targeted, misogynistic campaign by right wing activists against a young woman who dared to show compassion and empathy towards Palestinians.

The Reform Movement takes pride in its openness when it comes to talking about the occupation with its youth. Yet, when a proud and committed Reform Jew took a stand against the actions of the Israeli government, she was summarily censured. We reject this attempt to shut down dissent in our community. We refuse to be silent against injustice.

Jews who believe in dignity and equality for all who live in Israel/Palestine must call out this hypocrisy. The Reform Movement calls on us to embrace the notion of Tikkun Olam, to heal the world. It is through our connection to this idea that we know that the Occupation is a moral disaster that only creates violence and misery for both Palestinians and Israelis.

There will be those who will help to end the occupation, and those who will continue to enable it. We call on Reform Judaism to decide which side they are on.
